Job Summary
Reporting to the Head of Tax, the Specialist, International Tax is responsible for corporate income tax compliance relating to Dollarama’s international operations, including those carried out with its subsidiary located in Australia, and will be involved in the oversight of international transactions entered into with Dollarama’s subsidiaries in Latin America.
In the context of sustained international growth, this role plays a key part in both tax compliance and tax planning. The incumbent contributes actively to the development and continuous improvement of the group’s tax tools, procedures, and guidelines. A high level of autonomy, rigor, and proactivity is required. The Manager, International Tax will have the chance to be exposed to other business units at Dollarama, working collaboratively with the finance and legal teams on a daily basis.
Although the role is primarily focused on international tax matters, the Specialist, International Tax may be called upon, on an occasional basis, to work on other tax-related matters, including Canadian corporate income tax and indirect taxes, thereby fostering the development of a well-rounded tax expertise.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure compliance with all corporate income tax obligations related to Dollarama’s international operations, including those of its Australian subsidiary;
- Participate in the preparation of the corporate income tax provision for consolidated financial reporting purposes, including matters related to the global minimum tax rules (Pillar 2);
- Participate in transfer pricing research and analysis, and assist in the preparation of the transfer pricing compliance documentation;
- Liaise with external auditors on tax accounting matters related to international operations;
- Perform in-depth tax research and document tax analyses and tax positions;
- Participate in corporate income tax planning initiatives aimed at optimizing the Group’s tax strategy and managing identified tax risks;
- Monitor existing tax structures and make recommendations for improvement, where appropriate;
- Proactively and continuously improve tax procedures, guidelines, and internal controls;
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new tax tools;
- Stay abreast of legislative and regulatory developments in international tax and assess their impact on Dollarama;
Act as an internal subject-matter resource for international tax matters; and
Support the Head of Tax during tax audits conducted by tax authorities.
Job Requirements
- A Master’s degree in Taxation or advanced tax training (e.g., advanced CICA courses) is strongly preferred;
- Strong knowledge of international tax principles, including foreign affiliate regime and Pillar 2;
- Relevant tax experience of five (5) years;
- Experience acquired within a large public accounting firm (Big Four) and/or experience working with large organizations;
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills in a dynamic environment;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Ability to interact professionally with internal stakeholders, external advisors, and auditors; and
- Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken in order to interact with colleagues across the world.
