Senior Manager, Accounting

Job Summary

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Senior Manager, Accounting will play a leadership role in strengthening financial operations and driving process excellence across the finance function.


This role will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the organization’s financial records, for optimizing key accounting processes including asset accounting, revenue recognition, vendor rebates and payroll reconciliations while ensuring compliance with regulations and internal controls per 52-109 requirements.

Key Accountabilities

•    Provide leadership and direction to a team of two, including coaching, performance management and objective setting;
•    Oversee the day-to-day general accounting operations, ensure responsibilities are effectively allocated, and identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve productivity; 
•    Support with the accurate and timely financial close process, including the review and analysis of monthly financial results and reports for the quarterly and annual financial statements;
•    Review monthly accruals, key provisions, and balance sheet reconciliations;
•    Deliver insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making, including evaluation of revenue program performance and profitability, cost analysis by vendor, department and special projects; 
•    Own all aspects of asset accounting, including the policies and procedures relating to capitalizations, disposals, amortization and alignment with accounting policies and internal control requirements;
•    Lead the design and implementation of new finance processes to optimize financial and management reporting to support continuous business growth;
•    Maintain and govern management reporting master data, including cost center and internal orders ensuring alignment with financial planning and reporting requirements;
•    Oversee the accounting and forecasting of Dollarama’s corporate fleet, including the monthly review of the fleet assets, forecast of vehicle acquisitions and evaluation of the annual fleet program costs and policies;
•    Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting process narratives and workflows to ensure compliance with NI 52-109 requirements; 
•    Lead the coordination, review and assessment of SOC (Service Organization Control) for system integrity and operational risk management;
•    Coordinate and support the timely preparation of financial data and schedules for external and government audits;
•    Partner with Payroll and IT to ensure alignment, integrity and execution of payroll account reconciliations, filings and payments. 

Job Requirements

•    CPA designation required and audit experience from big 4 accounting firm;
•    A minimum 2 years of management experience in a similar role;
•    A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive accounting experience;
•    In-depth knowledge of IFRS and NI 52-109 internal control framework;
•    Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment;
•    Strong aptitude for financial analysis and problem solving in a high volume data environment;
•    Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate, influence and build strong relationships at all levels of the organization;
•    Proficient in ERP Systems, SAP experience is an asset;
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French.
