Senior Analyst, Accounting

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Accounting, the Senior Accounting Analyst will not only play a key role in the financial close process by delivering accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis but also optimize our accounting processes for non-current assets — driving efficiency and cost control across the organization.

Key Accountabilities

Financial reporting & analysis
•    Prepare monthly journal entries and assist in completing financial close activities, including judgmental/complex accruals and reclassification entries;
•    Perform balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accuracy and completeness of account balances;
•    Analyze monthly variances and provide insights on financial results;
•    Prepare supporting schedules and analysis for financial statement note disclosures;
•    Prepare internal financial statements for management.
Strategic initiatives
•    Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and accuracy;
•    Support ad hoc financial analyses for vendors, cost centers, and special projects;
•    Actively participate in the annual budget process including, analyze PL accounts and collaborate with other departments to gather and validate data inputs;
Review of non-current assets processes
•    Lead the review of accounting treatment for IFRS 16 - Leases;
•    Prepare monthly reconciliations for IFRS 16 accounting and movement schedules;
•    Actively participate in the transition to a new lease system and validation for new financial processes;
•    Contribute to monthly capital expenditure (Capex) reporting and analysis;
•    Support the Accounting Analyst – Lease and Accounting Analyst – PP&E in optimizing their day-to-day tasks to be more efficient.
Compliance & audit
•    Respond to audit requests, including GL extracts and supporting documentation;
•    Prepare audit confirmation requests relating to leases and related parties;
•    Partner with the ESG team to support the delivery of the annual climate report by supplying and analyzing relevant financial data. 

Job Requirements

•    CPA designation required;
•    3+ years of relevant accounting experience;
•    Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to work efficiently with large data sets and perform in-depth financial analysis;
•    Experience with large ERP system, SAP experience is a strong asset;
•    Background in audit is an asset;
•    Solid understanding of IFRS reporting standard, especially for IAS 16 – Property, Plant and Equipment and IFRS 16 - Leases;
•    Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;
•    Proven ability to actively engage with internal teams, fostering strong cross-functional collaboration and clear communication (both written and verbal) throughout the organization;
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French (Proficiency in English is required as the candidate will be working with teams across the rest of Canada).
