Paralegal-Claims and litigation management

Job Summary

We are looking for a paralegal to join Dollarama’s legal department to manage claims and litigation involving customers in our stores across Canada under the supervision of a legal team manager.

Key Accountabilities

  • Gather factual information about claims;
  • Analyze and evaluate complaints and propose an action plan for each case;
  • Communicate directly with customers or their lawyers;
  • Act as liaison with Dollarama’s outside lawyers and insurers;
  • Organize and maintain files and related correspondence;
  • Monitor progress and important dates;
  • Review reports prepared by Dollarama’s outside lawyers and insurers, organize and update internal reports;
  • Participate in drafting responses to requests for information;
  • Analyze legal documents for factual accuracy;
  • Draft settlement documents and receipts;
  • Prepare and update model documents;
  • Do legal research, if necessary;
  • Review and respond to video requests from law enforcement agencies;
  • Research and support for brand portfolio development
  • Any other clerical duties to support the legal team, as required.

Job Requirements

  • Paralegal diploma;
  • Knowledge of Common Law will be considered an asset;
  • Two to three years’ experience in a similar position will be considered an asset;
  • Experience working with an insurance company will be considered an asset;
  • Bilingual, with excellent writing skills in English and French;
  • Ability speak and write in Spanish will be considered an asset;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, professionally and courteously;
  • Negotiation skills;
  • Ability to follow up on files with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to follow up files with a minimum of supervision;
  • Ability to manage time and multiple files concurrently;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
