Market Leader (Baie-James)

Job Summary

The Market Leader will oversee the daily retail store operations, and be accountable for the completion of all the duties necessary to operate a number of Dollarama (the “company”) stores on a daily basis.

The Market Leader is a critical role within Dollarama. Based out of one “home” store, they will direct all the operational activities of 2 to 5 stores, including: day-to-day operations, people development, merchandising activities, recruitment and training activities, store openings, financial reporting of sales, productivity/labour costs, and inventory management. They will directly and indirectly lead a team of approximately 10 or more employees in each location.  

The Assistant Store Manager of their “home” store and the Store Managers of the other stores in their market will report directly to the Market Leader. The Market Leader will report directly to the Regional District Manager, who in turn reports to a VP Operations of Dollarama. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Directing all operational activities of their “home” store and within their market through their Assistant Store Managers and oversee 2 to 5 stores within their market;
  • Managing the resources of the store to maximize results and store appearance while making sure to constantly have inventory on the shelves;
  • Managing the work schedules according to the budgeted hours and business needs;
  • Managing and resolving customer complaints, questions and/or inquiries;
  • Ensuring the inventory counts (on-hands) are done in a prompt and precise manner, in order to ensure proper resupply of goods;
  • Ensuring that employees work safely and apply the standards required by health and safety.
  • Management of the entire operation workforce, inventory control and replenishment, and the profitability of the store base;
  • Development of store by store business plans;
  • Opening new store locations;
  • Development of strategies to meet a competitive environment; 
  • Developing and implementing action plans that capture opportunities in store sales growth or margin gain;
  • Conducting working store visits/evaluations to ensure the execution of quality service;
  • Building a strong team that can deliver goals and targets and provide consistent leadership across all functional areas of the district;
  • Integrating actions that create a synergy among all direct reports to ensure that decisions made are consistent with the goals of the Company;
  • Embracing the company's values with respect to the treatment of employees and customers, profitability and growth;
  • Providing operational expertise and implementing best in class practices necessary to support the success of the business;
  • Leading recruitment, development and retention of a team that operates with clear objectives and strategies in order to achieve district goals;
  • Developing clearly defined key performance indicators and evaluation methods and career path opportunities for the team;
  • Inspiring and motivating Store Managers and Associates, while at the same time developing individual accountability at every level within the district.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a management position, in the retail industry;
  • The incumbent will demonstrate a solid track record of growth and results in a high growth, high change, results oriented environment with a high volume SKU base and fast turnover of product;
  • The incumbent will possess both strategic and tactical capabilities;
  • A strong team builder, the incumbent will bring proven accomplishments in developing high performance teams. Team Management skills should include:  mentoring, performance coaching, communication, motivation, and group development skills;
  • The ideal candidate will be hungry for results and will not be afraid to “roll up their sleeves” and get into the details to achieve wins and accelerate the plan;
