Manager, Network Operations
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, IT Infrastructure, the Network Operations Manager is responsible for the leadership, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the organization’s enterprise network infrastructure. The role oversees network operations across corporate offices, distribution centres, datacentres, cloud environments, and retail stores while leading network professionals responsible for the availability, performance, security, and scalability of network services. The role is based at the Dollarama head office in Montreal (hybrid work schedule) and oversees both the Canada and Australia network teams.
Key Accountabilities
Network Operations & Service Availability
- Lead the Canada and Australia Network Operations team;
- Occasional evening meetings with Australia and remote Melbourne team reports;
- Ensure the availability, reliability, performance, and capacity of LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, SD-WAN, Internet, cloud, and datacentre network services;
- Oversee network monitoring, alerting, incident response, problem management, root cause analysis, and operational escalation;
- Coordinate major outage response and support the restoration of network services.
Retail Store Network Deployment
- Oversee network deployments and migrations for new and existing retail locations;
- Define and maintain staging, automated provisioning, validation, and health-check processes;
- Coordinate the network prerequisites, device assignment, connectivity, and operational readiness required for store openings and conversions;
- Drive repeatable deployment methods that reduce manual configuration and operational dependencies.
Network Architecture, Standards & Continuous Improvement
- Define and maintain network standards, naming conventions, operating procedures, technical documentation, and support practices;
- Improve network deployment and operational processes through automation, standardization, and measurable controls;
- Collaborate with Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Cloud, Application, and Project teams on secure and resilient solutions;
- Contribute to network roadmaps, capacity planning, technology refreshes, and modernization initiatives.
Asset, Licensing & Lifecycle Management
- Oversee network inventory, licensing, and support coverage;
- Coordinate the onboarding, transfer, refresh, replacement, and retirement of network equipment for Corporate and warehouse offices.
Vendor, Provider & Financial Management
- Manage relationships with telecommunications providers, network technology vendors, contractors, and managed service providers;
- Coordinate technical escalations, support engagements, upgrades, professional services, and implementation activities;
- Support procurement, budget planning, forecasting, contract renewals, and cost optimization for network services and technologies.
Team Leadership & Governance
- Provide leadership, technical guidance, coaching, workload prioritization, and escalation support to network team members in Canada and Australia;
- Establish service expectations, operational metrics, controls, and continuous improvement objectives;
- Promote knowledge transfer, effective documentation, change discipline, and collaboration across teams.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience;
- Minimum eight (8) years of progressive experience in network engineering or network operations, including at least three (3) years in a leadership or management capacity;
- Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise networks in large, distributed, multi-site environments. Retail environment experience is a strong asset;
- Strong knowledge of routing, switching, network security, VPN, SD-WAN, wireless networking, Internet connectivity, and high-availability design;
- Hands-on experience with Fortinet technologies, including FortiGate, FortiManager, and FortiAnalyzer;
- Experience with enterprise network monitoring and management platforms such as SolarWinds;
- Experience leading network deployments, migrations, upgrades, infrastructure modernization, and operational transition activities;
- Strong vendor management, project coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills; and
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and French.
