Business Data Analyst
Job Summary
Working within the Project Management Office in a dynamic environment, the Business Analyst plays a key role in the success of analytical products by acting as the liaison between business teams and the BI team. This role requires the ability to understand stakeholders’ analytical needs (Finance, Operations, Merchandising, Logistics, etc.), formalize these requirements, and propose innovative solutions while adhering to industry best practices and constraints. The analyst actively contributes to requirements gathering, documentation, development of analytical solutions (Power BI), BI governance, data standardization and quality, and participates in the full lifecycle of analytical projects—from design to training and support.
Key Accountabilities
• Lead workshops with stakeholders to understand and formalize analytical needs.
• Translate business requirements into clear functional specifications for IT developers (wireframes, data dictionaries, transformation rules, metrics, and calculation rules).
• Conduct analyses in Power BI for various stakeholders and design innovative solutions that will be standardized by the IT team.
• Play an active role in BI governance: consistency, standardization, data quality, and integrity.
• Design, develop, and optimize Power BI data models (Direct Lake, Import, DirectQuery).
• Develop interactive, high performance, and visually consistent reports aligned with internal standards.
• Provide support for reports and dashboards.
• Ensure adherence to best practices regarding security, RLS, performance, etc.
• Act as a primary point of contact between the BI team and business departments.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of BI standards, templates, processes, and best practices.
• Define and maintain functional and technical documentation for BI solutions.
• Validate and test developed reports with business users.
• Support and advise stakeholders on optimal use of BI tools.
Job Requirements
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in BI.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in advanced Power BI development.
• Significant experience as a BI Business Analyst.
• Knowledge of the retail or manufacturing sector (asset).
• Experience in a SAP environment (asset).
• Strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
• Proficiency in Power Query and Power BI is an asset.
• Knowledge of Visio and SAP is an asset.
• Proven experience in functional analysis, requirements gathering, workshops, and UAT.
• Excellent documentation skills.
• Ability to understand source tables, data flows, and conceptual and logical models.
• Strong communication and ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Proactivity, attention to detail, and strong customer orientation.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in varied contexts simultaneously.
• Ability to adapt quickly to change and work under pressure with stakeholders at different levels and departments.
• Experience in designing Power BI reports and dashboards.
• Strong understanding of star schema modeling and medallion architecture.
