Advisor, Human Resources Distribution Center (Balzac)
Job Summary
As a key partner to Distribution Center leadership, the Human Resources Advisor plays a critical role in supporting business performance through people. This role provides both hands-on and advisory HR support in a fast-paced, high-volume operational environment, including employee and labor relations, workforce planning, engagement, recruitment, and talent development.
Success in this role requires strong operational understanding, adaptability, and the ability to support leaders managing a large, often hourly, workforce across multiple shifts.
Key Accountabilities
HR Advisory & Operational Support
- Provide day-to-day HR advice and guidance to Distribution Center managers and employees;
- Act as the primary point of contact for HR-related inquiries;
- Support a multi-shift, high-volume workforce, ensuring consistent application of HR practices;
- Monitor workforce trends (turnover, absenteeism, productivity) and support action planning;
- Ensure compliance with company policies, employment standards, health & safety requirements, and applicable legislation;
Employee & Labor Relations
- Manage day-to-day employee relations, including conflict resolution, investigations, and disciplinary processes;
- Coach leaders on performance management, attendance, and workplace behaviors;
- Promote a respectful, safe, and inclusive work environment aligned with company values;
Talent Management & Workforce Support
- Support high-volume recruitment efforts for supervisory roles;
- Guide managers through onboarding and integration of new employees;
- Assist with workforce planning, including peak periods and ramp-up for DC opening;
- Contribute to employee development initiatives and succession planning processes;
Performance & Engagement
- Support the performance management process and coach leaders on effective execution;
- Assist in implementing engagement initiatives tailored to an operational workforce;
- Analyze engagement and retention trends and recommend improvements;
- Support change management initiatives, including the ramp-up and opening of the Distribution Center;
Job Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field;
- Minimum of 5 years of HR experience, ideally in a distribution center, manufacturing, logistics, or retail environment;
- Strong employee relations experience is required; labor relations experience is an asset;
- Good knowledge of Alberta employment legislation, including Employment Standards, Occupational Health & Safety, Human Rights, and Labour Relations frameworks;
- Experience supporting a large hourly workforce across multiple shifts;
- Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities;
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage competing priorities;
- Flexibility to support different shifts occasionnaly.
Work Location:
This position will be based on-site in Balzac, Alberta starting January 2027, aligned with the opening of the new Distribution Center. In the interim, the successful candidate will begin in a remote capacity, supporting retail store operations to build business knowledge, relationships, and operational understanding while the Distribution Center is under construction.
